Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched ballistic missiles, targeting an alleged Israeli Mossad spy base in northern Iraq and “anti-Iran terror groups” in Syria, escalating tensions in the region. The United States criticized the strikes as “reckless.” The missile strike in Iraq reportedly destroyed an espionage headquarters in Erbil, leading to civilian casualties. Simultaneously, the IRGC targeted bases in Syria, claiming to have destroyed key terror commanders and elements, especially from ISIS. The US characterized the attacks as “reckless and imprecise,” with no impact on US personnel or facilities.

An unnamed US State Department spokesperson reported that Iran claims the missile strikes were a response to terrorist attacks in Kerman and Rask, focusing on ISIS. The spokesperson reassured that the strikes did not damage the US Consulate Erbil or the New Consulate Compound under construction, and no American personnel were injured.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan region condemned the attack, urging the international community not to stay silent in the face of repeated assaults on the people of Kurdistan. He stated that several civilians were martyred and wounded during the unjustifiable attack by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The recent missile strikes by Iran in northern Iraq and Syria, targeting an alleged Israeli spy base and purportedly focusing on ISIS, have raised significant concerns about the potential for an escalating conflict. The United States has labeled the attacks as “reckless,” emphasizing that no American personnel or facilities were targeted or harmed. With the Kurdistan region reporting civilian casualties and damage, and the Iranian government citing retaliation for previous incidents, the situation heightens fears of a broader and more intense regional conflict. The international community, especially given Prime Minister Masrour Barzani’s call for condemnation and action, faces increasing concerns about the stability of the region and the potential consequences of these military actions.
