Neuralink founder Elon Musk announced Monday that the brain chip startup’s first human implant recipient underwent surgery on Sunday and is recovering well.

Musk posted on social media: “Yesterday, the first human received an implant from @Neuralink and is recovering well.”

Neuralink completed its first trial to test the implant last year. received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to carry out the About humans.

“Early results show promise for detecting neuronal spikes,” Musk added in the post.

Neuralink has been approved by an independent institutional review board, according to his website.

PRIME Study (short for Precise Robotically Implanted Brain-Computer Interface) – Medical Device Testing of a Fully Implantable Wireless Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) – to evaluate the safety of our implant (N1) and surgical robot The purpose is (R1) and evaluate the initial capabilities of his BCI to enable paralyzed people to control external devices with their heads,” his website for the company states.
During the study, the R1 robot will be used to surgically place the ultra-thin, flexible threads of the N1 implant into areas of the brain that control motor intention. Once inserted, the N1 implant is invisible and is designed to record brain signals and transmit them wirelessly to an app that deciphers motor intentions. The original goal of our BCI, they said, was to allow people to control a computer’s cursor or keyboard using just their thoughts.
